Shock Troopers (Arcade/Saurus/1997 Loki) [HD]

Check my other longplays (mostly in HD quality) on my channel. If you really liked my videos, don't forget to subscribe and visit my Facebook page.

Shock Troopers was made by Saurus in 1997 and released for Arcades same year.

This is a classic shmup from the Japanese, a very good arcade where you can pick one or three from eight characters in overall, depending on game mode. For some people (a majority as I know), first part of Shock Troopers is much better, because of more characters to pick, better weapons and powerups to pick up and choosing your path.

Shock Troopers (ショックトルーパーズ?) is an arcade game developed by Saurus. Gameplay involves taking command of one or three commandos in an eight-way shooter. The game received a semi-sequel in Shock Troopers: 2nd Squad.

At the beginning of each session, players choose whether to go through the game in one of two modes, Lonely Wolf or Team Battle. In Lonely Wolf, one character is controlled throughout the game, while Team Battle allows selecting a band of three soldiers through their missions, switching between them on-the-fly. Choosing to go it alone gives a higher starting life total, while proceeding as a team will give a wider variety of special weapons as well as a higher starting total (ten for each of the three characters instead of twenty for one).

At the beginning of the game, there is also a choice to travel through the Mountain, Jungle, or Valley route. Halfway through the game, a different route can optionally be chosen otherwise stay on the current path. Characters and paths chosen determine how much life bonus is received at the beginning of each level. Each stage consists of standard run and gun tactics interspersed with boss battles (both in the middle and at the end of each stage). Until the very end, battling the commander of the Bloody Scorpions atop an aircraft.

Each character has their own virtues over other selections. Some might start with higher life totals, while others could move faster. Regardless of choice, the soldiers each possess a unique special weapon or bomb, which varies in distance and range. Controls consist of an 8-way joystick and four buttons. Players move in eight directions with the joystick and fire, do evasive maneuvers, use their special weapon, and switch characters with the A, B, C, and D buttons, respectively.

Players must progress through six stages, fighting against other soldiers, bosses, and finally, the commander of the Bloody Scorpions. The weapons can be fired in all eight directions, but holding down the fire button allows strafing. Attacking within close range of an enemy will yield items, including point bonuses, weapon power-ups, and life. Enemy fire can be avoided with the dodge button. In Team Battle mode, the three selected soldiers can be cycled to utilize the traits and special weapons of each.

Sengoku 3 (ACA NEOGEO, Switch) Caravan Personal Best 142,500

I ain't afraid of no ghosts! Here we have Noise Factory's series capper for the NEOGEO, Sengoku 3. It modernizes the beat-em-up formula a bit by adding combos, a visible combo timer, and special attacks that can be woven into your combo chain. It's very a satisfying change of pace for the genre (I only wish there was more enemy variety and better backgrounds).

Magical Drop III is a puzzle game released in 1997 by Data East. Along with the addition of the Magical Journey mode, there are now more ways to enjoy the action.

ACA NEO GEO SENGOKU 2 100% Achievement Walkthrough

The achievements in this game are straightforward. You must reach a required score in 3 different modes and upload a score in 2 of them.

Caravan Mode requires a score of 30,000 with no need to upload a score.

Hi Score Mode requires 50,000 points and a score to be uploaded. To upload a score you need to fail and select Yes when it asks you to upload your score.

Original Mode requires 300,000 points and a score upload. It's the easiest of the 3 modes as you can set the difficulty to easy and the lives to the maximum in the settings. To upload your score you can either finish the game (there are only 4 stages and you will be on stage 4 by the time you get 300,000), or you can stand there and let all your lives run out. Either way, make sure to select Yes again when asked.

Overall a very easy 1000 gamerscore. The only one easier in this series is arguably World Heroes.

Shock Troopers Valley Route 1CC Lonly Wolf - Big Mama (60 FPS)

Praise be to Big Mama!

Just so we are clear, this is a perfect video game. There is literally not a thing wrong with it. A true 10 out of 10, a classic that never was because of how popular Metal Slug became hiding this gem in the dirt. Metal Slug is great but this game is far better!

Released by Saurus in 1997 this was a Neo-Geo run and gun with 8 different characters. They have typical stats like health/speed/power/bombs.

This was a playthrough using Big Mama in Lonly Wolf mode, which they misspelled :clap In Team Mode, you get 3 different characters so you can take every situation the right way. Big Mama fuckin rules so I used a solo game which gives you 3 lives of the same character.

Basic gameplay functions are shoot, dodge, bomb and change character. If you hold the shot button, you lock your direction which is really slick shit and basically a perfect way to get around being able to move and deal with enemies.

The scoring system is great too. Shooting enemies only gives a small number of points, but if you get close and melee them, they will drop various power ups, health items, but most likely a 30,000 point gem. That is a great way to balance risk and reward and keeps the game exciting.

There are 3 different routes to take in the game and each has 5 stages, then the final mission which is the same regardless. Lots of variation and 8 different endings depending on the character.

Best of all is the dodge system. You are totally invincible while dodging and you can dodge whenever you want. Nothing in this game is bullshit thanks to the combat roll. You can even do jump rolls while climbing ladders :orgasmic

Definitely one of my favorite games I've played in this little series, this game is 100% air tight. A very rare game that I can't find a chink in the armor. Perfection!

Anyways, played in Mame with a Qanba Q2, no cheats. Not a great score or playthrough, but a 1CC regardless :)

Robo Army (Neo Geo AES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthrough of SNK's 1991 beat' em up for the Neo Geo AES, Robo Army.

Played through on the normal difficulty level with Maxima.

Robo Army was one of SNK's earlier beat 'em ups for the Neo Geo platform, and though it'll probably never be considered one of the machine's defining titles, it certainly knows how to entertain.

You can't fault SNK for their creativity when it comes to games like Robo Army, since its completely outlandish plot line and scenario is part of what makes the game so memorable. Dr. Jeed, a scientist from Neo-Detroit, kidnaps Maxima and Rocky, two cyborg police officers. They manage to escape, and of course, feel compelled to fell the mad scientist's nefarious plot by set about destroying everything in sight. I won't spoil it, but it has some hilarious plot twists.

Robo Army is a belt-scrolling beat 'em up like Final Fight or Sengoku, and gameplay largely consists of walking from the left to the right, punching everything until it dies or explodes. The fun twist here is that your cyber-cops can turn into cars, Transformers style. And for some reason, they look just like Sophia from Blaster Master. Go figure. You can just pick up cars and throw them at the enemies of you prefer. Either tactic is effective. The game is fairly difficult - enemies can take out massive chunks of your health in one hit, and you have to be careful about your rhythm and attack timings, but it's pretty manageable after a few games.

The graphics really helped to sell the game back in 1991, and the look does enough to set it apart still. The enemy designs are fantastic - many of they remind me a lot of the gross corruptions from Mutation Nation, but you get the added variety of a lot more robots thrown in this time as well. Cars suddenly stand up, sprout appendages and attack, a robot gorilla that fills half the screen oversees cells full of human prisoners - the sheer outlandishness of it all gives it a distinct personality. I loved the look. The sound is about as good - it's full of strange voice samples and some music that rocks surprisingly hard for such an early game. Of course, good luck hearing it - most of the time you'll be hearing the sounds of your metal limbs clanging against everything alongside some announcer incessantly yelling out Cyberball!!

Overall, Robo Army is a fun and ridiculous take on the beat 'em up that fans of 90s arcade games should enjoy. Even better, it's available on all of the major consoles thanks to Hamster's ACA series. After beating it countless times on the Switch, I figured it was about time to upload a video.

No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
