Battle Brothers Tip and Tricks - A Guide to Min/Max leveling and getting the best of your Brothers

Today's Tale is all about tips and tricks i have learned from playing the early access beta of Battle Brothers.

In this tips and tricks video I talk about hiring on new characters, what to look out for skill and talent wise. What to do while leveling your brothers and what to look out for late game wise, and what goals you need to aim for when leveling your battle brothers.

Battle Brothers is a turn based strategy RPG mix which has you leading a mercenary company in a gritty, low-power, medieval fantasy world. You decide where to go, whom to hire or to fight, what contracts to take and how to train and equip your men in a procedurally generated open world campaign. Do you have what it takes to lead them through bloody battles and to victory? The game consists of a strategic world map and a tactical combat layer. On the world map you can freely travel in order to take contracts that earn you good coin, find places worth looting, enemies worth pursuing or towns to resupply and hire men at. This is also where you manage, level up and equip your Battle Brothers. Once you engage a hostile party the game will switch to a tactical map where the actual fighting takes place as detailed turn based combat.

DLC Weapons Guide - Battle Brothers: Beasts and Exploration

A guide on the new DLC weapons for Battle Brothers: Beasts and Exploration.

Battle Brothers [1.0.0.2] - How to survive the early game

TURN ON ENGLISH SUBTITLES!!!

Part 2:

Information on backgrounds (the wikia is kinda outdated):

- The BEST early game recruits are: brawler (above average stats + no useless gear), fisherman (comes with net and straw hat), messenger (brings his own early game armor + fatigue), militia (overall above average, but might be too expensive, never hire more than 1 early on), wildman (the XP penalty is not a big deal and they have higher initial stats + no gear), gravedigger (bonus resolve and fatigue), farmhand (above average HP + fatigue), caravan hand (slightly above average + early game gear), lumberjack (higher melee + fatigue), hunter (good archer. Poacher is the cheap version of the hunter, also a good option) and historian/apprentice/mason (15/10/5% bonus to XP + good events) and Witchunter (your OTHER option for ranged).

- DECENT early game recruits (no big bonuses, but no penalties either OR the bonuses make up for the penalties): butcher (some stat bonuses, but crappy gear), miller (all around decent + no crap gear), thief, tailor, eunuch, gambler, servant, vagabond, grave robber, houndmaster, juggler, daytaler

- I generally AVOID (but you might wanna hire them as meat shields): Miner (reduced fatigue and useless weapon), Monk (trades melee and fatigue for resolve), Ratcatcher (decent stats, but bad event), Refugee (reduced resolve and HP), Killer on the run (take a guess...), peddler (very reduced melee), deserter (HUGE resolve penalty), cripple (for real?).

Information on early game enemies:

- Werewolves and ghouls: dumbasses that will just rush your spearwall. Easy paycheck! Pay attention to soldiers getting surrounded, though.

- Bandit thugs are pushovers, but raiders are not! Pay attention to the pre-battle screen: if it says bandit thugs go get that cheap XP. If it says bandit raiders...assess the situation carefully and don't be afraid to flee to fight another day.

- Be careful with skeletons. These guys pack a punch, wear armor (so it's harder to itemize against), have a lot of HP and don't EVER get tired. Forget your usual medieval fantasy tropes: skellies are NOT trash mobs. Don't learn this lesson the hard way.

NOTE: If you're on a retrieve item X from Y quest, skellies are likely to show up, but they only do so AFTER the item is retrieved. That means you can retreat and STILL get the gold for the contract!

- Zombies/Wiedesomething: the fight can EASILY snowball against you once your guys start getting tired. Use spearwalls, since zombies are dumbassess. Don't get into a war of attrition against them, you WILL lose.

- Greenskins: don't take orcs on without tier 2/3 weapons. Young orcs are mostly a mid game enemy and fighting them is pretty straightforward. Goblins OTOH vary a lot. If you find them on flat terrain, engage and stomp them. Swords and spears are the best thing against them (even late game), since they have high defense but poor armor.

However, DON'T TRY TO FIGHT GOBLINS EARLY ON IN BAD TERRAIN!!!! YOU WILL GET MURDERED! Also, goblins provide you with decent weapons that you can actually use.

Other misc tips:

- Every character in Battle Brothers has a zone of control around him. When you try to leave an enemy's zone of control, he gets a free attack against you. If the attack connects, the move is aborted (but the AP is still lost). Stunned and routing characters lose their ZoC. Routing can easily lead to a quick death, as the soldier keeps trying to get away over and over, triggering free attacks from every enemy within range.

- Shields are a must early on. Once you combine the increased defense from a shield with the HP buffer provided by the armor and helmet you got a bro that is VERY tough to take down, no matter how shitty his stats are. Shield mastery is also pretty amazing once you first reach it.

As the game progresses, you'll probably transition into 2H territory, making shields somewhat less important. However, you're unlikely to ever ditch them completely.

- The heather shield is a neat little exception to my cost-effectiveness rule: if you see one for sale, buy it. It costs more, but it will make your initial spear-and-shield bro almost unkillable with it's whopping +25 melee defense.

- Always READ your contracts before rejecting them. A 3 skull delivery by foot (NOT caravan, those are very RNG dependent) quest is not only doable, it's also profitable if you manage to AVOID higher level mobs. A 1 skull contract against a goblin den in the middle of a swap can EASILY spell your company's doom.

- If you're running REALLY tight on crowns, remember that wages are paid in the afternoon. Hover over the gold icon to see your current daily expenditure.

- Last but not least, don't be afraid to break a contract. The consequences aren't all that bad, just avoid that town for a couple of weeks.

Battle Brothers how to start guide for new players , Expert diff

This is on expert difficulty but you can apply it to any difficulty. The basics of the game are very hard to master and after 10-20 hours it will become a game of tasking risks or chosing the safe way.
All the weapons are good but most of them are situational
A good all around choice would be a shield and a sword....but NEVER equip your battle brothers the same, try to mix them up so you have the right tool for the right job.
The gameplay will change drastically with the DLC because it has a free update to the game but the starting will almost always be the same.
I will make more videos because with the dlc i think Battle Brothers will have the succes people wanted it to have.
Increasing the exploration and adding more mechanics was something we all wanted since it launched.
