10 best tips for playing New Frontier Days: Founding Pioneers

New Frontier Days: Founding Pioneers (Nintendo Switch) Review | 8-Bit Eric

New Frontier Days - Founding Pioneers is the first sim game on the Nintendo Switch. You play as a settler tasked with colonizing a new land. You have to keep your people fed, housed, and happy, all without going broke!

The game operates point and click style. You point and click on a settler and you can then order them to do stuff such as Chop down trees, mine rocks, shear sheep, fish, hunt boar or even attack bears. Every action will reward you with resources.

Gather enough of these and you will be able to construct buildings like houses, saw mills, quarry, kitchens and other places to create more resources, sell resources. This also allows you to get new settlers as you grow and keeps your town happy.

Each year, there is a Harvest Festival, which costs you cash and food. So it is important that you get used to selling materials for cash, and cooking up vast quantities of food. Sometimes random events happen that cause your city to face disaster, the most common experience is wild boars running thru town.

This will set you back a bit, but adds a decent challenge. Now there are three play modes : Story Mode, Survival Mode, & Free Mode.

In Free Mode the player is able to play to his or her heart’s content without any worry about getting a game over screen. Story Mode requires the player to have enough food and currency to keep the villagers happy, but if you run out of either of these for two years in a row and it’s game over. Survival Mode does away with any introduction and hand holding tutorials and tosses the player right into building your settlement.

The main objective is to go from the pioneer age to the modern age. If you don't have a steady stream of resources being made and sold, you won't be able to afford the rapid expansion necessary.

I personally prefer playing in portable mode because New Frontier Days actually supports the touch screen. I will admit the graphics of this game are pretty basic, and this does look like a cheaply made game you would see on app stores for your phone.

The visuals while colorful, just look plain and ugly at times. There isn’t too much in way of animations or personality in the settlers either.

This game does bare minimum for its type of genre, and even though it never claimed to be more than what it was, it just feels a little outdated for the Switch, especially with games like Stardew Valley coming out later.

Personally, I enjoyed this game enough to play it while waiting at the Doctor’s office, and on road trips, but it is bare minimum as mindless as a Facebook game from 2008.

If this is your type of game, you probably could get some waste of time out of it, but if you are already looking at this game and thinking it looks boring, I wouldn’t bother.

Crafting Games on the Switch!

Crafting, Building, Making, whatever you chose to call it, there’s no doubt the genre has become more popular than ever. While we see many crafting elements in games like Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Fortnight, I decided to focus this list on games that had crafting as a major part of the game. There are some other “crafty” games that I haven’t tried as well as bridge builder type games that again, I haven’t touched (Much), thus they didn’t make the list.

Starlink: Battle for Atlas is Special & the Perfect Foundation for Something Bigger

Smash Ultimate Switch Bundle Giveaway:

Starlink: Battle for Atlas is... special. It's imperfect, but also one of my favorite gaming experiences in some time. There is something special to be had, a foundation for something that could turn into one of the greatest IPs in the industry. But, by the games very nature, it holds itself back, unintentionally so.

Mr. Shifty (Nintendo Switch) Review | 8-Bit Eric

8-Bit Eric reviews Mr. Shifty on the Nintendo Switch. Mr. Shifty is a pretty cool over the top view beat em up game that is a lot like Hotline Miami, Die Hard, and other classic games similar like that. You control a spy by the name of Mr. Shifty who can teleport through walls, your objective in this game is to make your way up a tower in order to steal some Mega Plutonium.

This game is complete chaos and quite a challenge. Mr Shifty is a pretty short game, you can breeze right thru it and not realize it with all the fast paced action going on. With that said, this is a great pick-up game, and works wonderfully in long stretches of gaming. The incentive for replay is there, since you can always go back and try to perfect all the levels you have played.

BUILD 'EM UP!! // Factorio #1

Factorio is pretty cool - started over cuz last one was a disgrace and pretty much could have been 10x better in retrospect. So I absolutely feel privileged to be in this position right now, with all this awesome equipment around me, its so cool. Since i were i child, i always looked up tp youtubing and i couldnt wait to do it, cringy i know but its actually really fun to do and i think its actually awesome that i can just play games and you watch it, it utterly blows my mind. I know little people watch me, but isnt that what every youtuber goes through? It doesnt matter, i just love games and love you all.

Ep05: MOLE KNIGHT FIGHT - Specter of Torment | Nintendo Switch | Let's Play

Welcome to The Basement, let's play Specter of Torment (Shovel Knight) on the Nintendo Switch! Today we fight Mole Knight - can we prevail? The Basement is the friendliest place on YouTube!

In today's episode (Ep 5), we finish Mole Knight's Lair (Lost City) by taking on Mole Knight himself. He's a cool boss and the fight is a bit tricky.

The music in the Lost City sounds fantastic - it's a great remix. The beginning part of the level is new - an above ground portion. It's beautiful!

We'll feature some gameplay, share our early impressions, and give an informal, spontaneous Specter of Torment review as we go.

Come downstairs and have a seat with us on the couch right here in The Basement - the friendliest place on YouTube!

Wait, isn't the release date for Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment in April? It is on every other platform, but the release date Specter of Torment on the Nintendo Switch was March 3rd!

We have the FIRST LOOK at Specter of Torment because we went out and bought a Nintendo Switch at midnight and immediately installed Specter of Torment. We wanted to be able to show you guys some gameplay and give you our first impressions and early review. It wasn't easy with that OTHER GAME sitting on the table, but we're here for you!

Specter of Torment (release date April 2017) is available NOW (March 3rd!) on the Nintendo Switch, and our first impressions are that it is AWESOME. The gameplay is fantastic and our first look at the game has shown us that Yacht Club has done it yet again. Specter Knight handles smoothly and beautifully, and the gameplay is a treat.

Specter of Torment gameplay is smooth and fast on the Nintendo Switch, as it should be. Our first impression: GLAD WE BOUGHT IT. Our next first impression? YOU SHOULD BUY IT. We hope you enjoy this FIRST LOOK at Specter Knight's campaign in Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment.

We really had a lot of fun taking a first look at Specter of Torment for the Nintendo Switch. Was this your first look? Yacht Club Games is certainly worth giving a first look - if you haven't looked before, look now! There's a first time for everything.

What's your reaction to this first look at gameplay of Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment on the Nintendo Switch? What's your reaction to this Specter of Torment gameplay? Did you disagree with anything we said in our informal review of Specter of Torment? We want to see your Specter of Torment reaction in the comments below!

The release date for Specter of Torment is March 3rd 2017 for Nintendo Switch. The release date for Specter of Torment is April 2017 for all other platforms.

We love Yacht Club Games!

The Basement is a let's play Youtube channel - a duo of musical dads from Minnesota, USA. Family friendly gaming that's safe for kids, clean commentary and nostalgic experiences are our motto. Think of us as a clean Game Grumps kind of channel. Game Grumps clean? Kinda! We're definitely kid-friendly content with no swearing and games that are appropriate for all ages. We are proud to be the friendliest place on YouTube!
