Puyo puyo tips - building large chains consistently

This video is focused on tips for building large chains more consistently. This video doesn't cover the idea of base forms, instead giving concepts that you can hopefully apply to any base form you learn.

A followup video covering 2 player strategies and attacking/defending can be found here:

0:10 - Explanation of base forms and transitions
1:40 - Hanging puyo
5:20 - Color balance
10:20 - Flat and convex
15:45 - Adjusting to the next next piece
19:54 - Tails as a transition
21:18 - Making the top the new middle

For more puyo puyo stuff, look up puyo nexus and the forums there, and puyo puyo VS 2. For watching high level matches, you can find videos on youtube of Japanese A and S class league matches, as well as other matches between high level players. I believe momoken has been the best player in Japan by a significant margin for a long time, but other long time top players include people like Alf and Kamestry.
momoken's twitch channel containing highlights of a recent set of matches against other top players in Japan can be found here:
Alf's twitch channel with the most recent S class league matches can be found here:

Given that I've never really tried to help someone learn puyo puyo so this information could be too complex, covered too quickly, not relevant or useful, too obvious, etc., I'm open to questions, comments, and reasonable criticism.

Unfortunately, I haven't been as into puyo puyo recently, but hopefully there will be another Japanese S class league and I'll watch all the matches and get into the game again... (this video is a saved video from a time I was more into it)

Puyo Puyo Tetris

Play Puyo Puyo Tetris for PC:

Puyo Puyo Tetris is an incredibly well balanced game

said no one ever

Edit:
I'm gonna make some final points before I disable notifications for this video because seeing people repeat nonsense is getting kinda tiring (which means I will very rarely if ever respond to comments anymore):

1. There are three different strategies when it comes to playing Tetris:
General attack, the way you should play and how you will see most players play
Survival-centric, at the cost of damage (not so good)
Combo (terrible)
Yeah I could have done survival better in this video but that's just about the only way I played poorly. Attacking skills ranged from normal to great.

2. Okay yes. I'm salty. Because if I say literally anything else, it won't matter because you guys obviously love rebuttals like lol you just SUCK and CAN'T TAKE ADVICE! To everyone I have responded to so far, my response has not mattered at all.

3. Yes, I *probably* know more and am better at this game than you are and thus am *probably* more qualified to talk about how you should be playing. I am, according to the leaderboards, in the top 1% of players, as a purely tetris player. So yes, I think that means I am pretty good. I have over 800 hours on this game. That doesn't inherently mean you are wrong, either. There were one or two instances of people actually *not* being stupid. Granted, they were giving advice like Do better at surviving or Hit them with strong attacks more often which is something you should be doing if you want to get better even outside of matchup, but at least they weren't factually incorrect. Literally just watch my play in the video and see my skill caliber. I clearly must know something about how to play the game with how good I am, I'm not clueless.

4. Puyo is way too strong and saying otherwise without specifically specifying that you are referring to the very top tier of players is nonsense. Again I go back to the fact that I am technically in the top 1% but still struggle with matchup. I perform better against top 20 Tetris players than against *this guy* so yes, I am inclined to say that the game's balance is shit and is tilted too much in favor of Puyo players for a gigantic majority of players.

5. Taking the title alone, it's still 100% true regardless of which game you play ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Majority of tetris players get fucked, tournament level puyo players get fucked.

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 SUCKS

This game sucks, don't buy it. The first game is better.
