Puyo Puyo Tetris is an incredibly well balanced game

said no one ever

Edit:
I'm gonna make some final points before I disable notifications for this video because seeing people repeat nonsense is getting kinda tiring (which means I will very rarely if ever respond to comments anymore):

1. There are three different strategies when it comes to playing Tetris:
General attack, the way you should play and how you will see most players play
Survival-centric, at the cost of damage (not so good)
Combo (terrible)
Yeah I could have done survival better in this video but that's just about the only way I played poorly. Attacking skills ranged from normal to great.

2. Okay yes. I'm salty. Because if I say literally anything else, it won't matter because you guys obviously love rebuttals like lol you just SUCK and CAN'T TAKE ADVICE! To everyone I have responded to so far, my response has not mattered at all.

3. Yes, I *probably* know more and am better at this game than you are and thus am *probably* more qualified to talk about how you should be playing. I am, according to the leaderboards, in the top 1% of players, as a purely tetris player. So yes, I think that means I am pretty good. I have over 800 hours on this game. That doesn't inherently mean you are wrong, either. There were one or two instances of people actually *not* being stupid. Granted, they were giving advice like Do better at surviving or Hit them with strong attacks more often which is something you should be doing if you want to get better even outside of matchup, but at least they weren't factually incorrect. Literally just watch my play in the video and see my skill caliber. I clearly must know something about how to play the game with how good I am, I'm not clueless.

4. Puyo is way too strong and saying otherwise without specifically specifying that you are referring to the very top tier of players is nonsense. Again I go back to the fact that I am technically in the top 1% but still struggle with matchup. I perform better against top 20 Tetris players than against *this guy* so yes, I am inclined to say that the game's balance is shit and is tilted too much in favor of Puyo players for a gigantic majority of players.

5. Taking the title alone, it's still 100% true regardless of which game you play ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Majority of tetris players get fucked, tournament level puyo players get fucked.

• Battle – Substitute human players with 1-3 CPU opponents to fight against simultaneously.
• Endurance – Go the distance in a one-on-one gauntlet of never-ending CPU opponents, racking up as many wins as possible.

[TAS] Puyo Puyo Tetris (PC) Sprint (32-bit seeds allowed) - 19.96 sec (10 Tetris Perfect Clears)

This TAS is considered invalid, see why here:

0 rerecords. Unlike previous TASes, this one does not use auto piece movement (from parts of Zetris' code), but rather only frame advance. Inputs were done manually to make sure no input was dropped from the automated system. This is NOT Zetris' AI making decisions on its own. The RNG seed, piece placements and order were optimized to take the least amount of frames to execute.

Most of the timesave comes from the additional Perfect Clears, but the last bit to cut off the 20 second mark comes from better movement optimization (thanks to inputting manually) and less holds required.

Puyo Puyo Tetris (Switch) - Ranked/Versus (Tetris) Online Top Ranked Play

Master ranks, here.

You should watch #4 and #5 ranked in the world duke it out here. Makes my stuff look like a snail in comparison. Very impressive stuff to aspire to.

There's a place in the Online mode that allows you to view replays like this all over the place. Not just your own. You can download whatever you like for playback in the future.

Puyo Puyo Tetris - Adventure - 5-5, 5-6, 5-7, 5-8, 5-9, 5-10

How are you doing, everyone? Yes, I do have Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. But it seems that I need to hurry through both this and Freedom Planet. The next game for my Switch library, Disgaea 5, will be releasing a week and a half from now (would any of you be interested in me putting up a playthrough of that?), and I want to finish my coverage of Freedom Planet before Sonic Mania comes out. Puyo Puyo Tetris is straightforward enough, as its single player mode is just getting to the end, but Freedom Planet's will also entail the Gallery Cards and the Speedrunner Badges. Not that anything Freedom Planet means anything to most of you who are watching this video...

5-5 - Puzzle Trial
Marathon Trial
Score 4,000 points before clearing 4 lines!
Here, more than ever, you'll need to make the most of everything you've got. A Tetris clear will instantly finish this stage, and while it'll probably give you the 4,000 points needed to move on, it won't give you the 8,000 points for the three-star rank. For that, you need to do non-Tetris clears too. Also, the blocks drop fast!

5-6 - Puzzle Trial
Fever Trial
Score 500,000 points before reaching Level 30!
This one begins from Level 20, so you've got a ways to go. 1,000,000 points seems like a lot, but it really isn't. I exceeded 2,000,000 points in this one. This one's also a good source of credits, as you can see.

5-7 - Hungry, Hungry Half-Dragon
Big Bang
Beat Draco Centauros! (Tetris cs Puyo Puyo)
Draco Centauros is another new face to the English language Puyo Puyo franchise. I think. She's actually been around right from the start of the series, but she was part of the cast that was collectively put on a bus when SEGA took over from Compile but was brought back in Puyo Puyo 7 with the new art style. She and Oshare Bones (when Draco Centauros was gone from the series) both never rotate their Puyos as their signature style, making them easy to beat. Not in this one though. That being said, your score threshold is very high, with 80,000 points for the three-star rank. You better be able to do those T-spins, L-spins, and their other cousins, because you're going to fall just shy of that number otherwise.

5-8 - The Nature of Existence
Sprint Trial
Clear 8 lines within 1 minute!
Draco Centauros tries out Tetris in this one, it seems. Also, we get our next non-playable cameo in Lidelle, the timid...whatever she is from Puyo Pop Fever, and said Tetris-trying-out is to prove to Lidelle she's real. However that works. Your goal is to clear 8 lines: 60 seconds to pass, 50 seconds for two stars, and 40 seconds for three stars. (UPDATE: In case you're wondering, Wendee Lee voices Draco Centauros. She's done a lot of stuff but is best known as Faye Valentine in Cowboy Bebop.)

5-9- Play With Me!
Versus
Beat Ecolo! (Tetris vs Tetris)
Just like with the Dark Prince, Ecolo will put up way more of a fight than the other adversaries in the chapter. I suppose that makes them something of end bosses. In this part, it's Ringo's turn to fight Ecolo. She's done that before, though it'll be her first time using Tetris against him...and Ecolo's definitely new to it too. Ecolo's AI seems to like setting up long chains and such, so he's vulnerable to attacks as it'll push his activity way up precariously high.

5-10 - Buried in Puyos
Versus
Beat Ecolo! (Puyo Puyo vs Puyo Puyo)
Even more so in Puyo Puyo, as you can wreck his meticulously-crafted playfield with even small attacks. The challenge here to get the score needed for a three-star rank lies not in beating him, but letting him live long enough to build my score without him annihilating me during the process.

This chapter ends with the appearance of Professor Accord and her cat/hand puppet Popoi. She's also not playable, and neither is Popoi!

This chapter ends with the unlocking of Draco Centauros and Witch, by the way, the two true neutral playable characters among the 8 hidden ones. Well, in this story anyway--they were both evil when they debuted.
