10 Tips for Winning at Online Poker in 2020: Online Poker Tips & Strategies

Learn how to improve your online poker game and win in online poker tournaments and online poker cash games In 2020. Here are ten tips for winning at online poker and avoiding potential pitfalls READ FULL BLOG:

1) Understand the Online poker Landscape/Choose the Right Stakes:
This is a different player pool than you may be used to seeing at casinos. There will still be plenty of recreational players that make numerous mistakes. However, as you increase the stakes, you will find more multi-tabling professionals who are using statistical software as they play.

2) Make Sure You Trust Your Poker Site/App:
Do your research before you begin playing on any website or app. Make sure you understand their payout process. Also, read up about the level of competition on the site.

3) Manage Your Money and Environment (Bankroll management):
Manage your bankroll effectively. Of course, you never should be playing with money you can’t afford to lose. In general, you should never have more than 5% of your poker bankroll in play at once.

4) Be Ready for a Faster Pace than Live Poker
You will possibly be dealt twice as many hands per hour than in live poker. It may feel like online poker is poker on steroids! You’ll need to make quicker decisions as you actually have only 30 seconds to 1.5 minutes to act before your cards are folded.

5) Get Used To Having No Live Reads
Pay attention to how quickly your opponent bets when they are bluffing or value betting. Sometimes your opponent will make a very quick call which means they did not even consider raising, and they likely have either a draw or a mediocre hand. Make use of every bit of information you have in the absence of live reads.

6) Open a Tight Range of Hands from Early Position
In general, online poker players like to 3-bet (or reraise) more than live players. This means that if you open raise a loose range of hands from early position, you will be attacked more often by re-raises, and it will be harder to see the flop at a good price.
Download our Preflop Charts here: bit.ly/preflopcharts

7. Be Careful with Flat-Calling Raises When There Are Aggressive Players Left Behind You:
The reasoning here is similar to tip #6. You don’t want to be calling raises with a wide range of hands when you don’t even know the real price you’ll be paying or if you will get to see the flop.

8. Continuation Bet Dry Ace High and King high Boards as the Preflop Raiser
Even against calling stations, these bluffs still work enough of the time to be profitable.

9. Re-Raise Often in Position Against Loose Openers
When you are in the Hijack, Cutoff, and Button, you are in the prime seats to print money. When your opponents make the mistake of opening with too many hands, take advantage of it by 3-betting them.

10. The Biggest Money Saver of All: Fold Your Bluff Catchers to Turn and River Raises
When you raise preflop, bet the flop, and make a strong bet on the turn and then get raised, proceed with extreme caution.

Poker Ranges Explained

In this video I breakdown how to look at a poker hand using ranges and how that has developed over the years. I no longer only think about my hand vs. my opponents hand, but now look at the ranges of hands we could both have in that spot. I touch briefly on counting combinations and their importance in determining ranges. Finally, I talk about how blocker's change the possible combinations an opponent could have. Coming soon we'll release some live hands I recently played and dissect the ranges.

These are the top beginner poker tips that I wish I knew about when I was first starting out in poker.

You can save yourself some serious time, and money, by avoiding all of the same beginner mistakes that I made!

The 14 beginner poker tips that I mention in this video will help you quickly starting creating consistent profits for yourself at the poker tables.

Did any of these beginner poker tips help you? Are there any that I missed?

Let me know in the comments below.

Here Are My Top 14 Beginner Poker Tips - Avoid These Common Mistakes

1) Be Selective With the Hands You Play

You must play relatively tight in order to consistently win as a poker beginner.

2) Be Aggressive With the Hands You Play

You must play aggressively both before the flop and after the flop in order to beat small stakes games.

3) Play Against Bad Poker Players

This is probably my most important beginner poker tip of all. You must play against bad players in order to win.

4) Don't Bluff Too Much

Try to avoid bluffing too much versus all the bad players

5) Make Lots of Value Bets

You need to be betting any time you have a good hand like middle pair, top pair or better.

6) Play Within Your Bankroll

Make sure you have at least 30 full buyins if you play cash games or 100 full buyins if you play tournaments.

7) Make Sure You Know the Poker Hand Rankings

It is extremely important for poker beginners to know the poker hand rankings by memory.

8) Don't Chase Draws Too Much

An important beginner poker tip is to avoid chasing flush draws and straight draws too much. Sometimes you should just fold.

9) Don't Play High Stakes

If you are a poker beginner you should avoid high stakes games.

10) Don't Play Too Many Poker Tables

If you are brand new to online poker I would recommend playing just one table for now.

11) Know Your Position at the Poker Table

One of my top poker beginner tips is to always know your position at the poker table. The button is the best spot to be!

12) Use a Poker Tracking Program

I have used the PokerTracker HUD for nearly 10 years now and recommend it for all serious players (link above).

13) Invest In Your Poker Knowledge

You can quickly improve with poker books or poker video courses (my recommended ones below).

14) Have Fun!

It is important to always remember why you started playing poker in the first place, to have fun!

Don't ever let the bad beats wear you down.

My top beginner poker tip is to always have a smile on your face, because poker is a crazy, but fun, game :)

Ultimate Texas Hold'em Strategy

Play at the best Casinos with the best bonuses here!

Ultimate Texas Hold’em Strategy

Once you’ve learnt Ultimate Texas Hold’em, it’s really easy to play the right way by learning a few simple rules. This strategy is simplified to make it simple for you to learn, remember, and use the next time you’re playing Ultimate Texas Hold’em – it’s a great first step to playing perfect strategy. Most of the tips have to do with when to raise but there’s one thing you can do right away to win more money playing Ultimate Texas Hold’em.
Be Careful Betting Trips
If you want to play the numbers, the ‘Trips’ bet is the first thing you should watch out for. It can be fun to bet the bonus and win big when you get lucky, but over time it can be a big leak. Depending on the casino, the house edge on the ‘Trips’ bet can be as bad as 6%. Since it’s hard to analyze pay tables on the fly, it’s a lot easier to just skip the ‘Trips’ bet altogether.
The 4X Raise
After you’re dealt your cards, you can either check or make a play bet equal to four times your ante, a lot of people only make this bet with monster hands, but the truth is there are lots of hands you can profitably raise here - raise with all your pairs except Deuces, raise when you have an Ace and any other card, raise when you have a King and any other card if they’re suited, raise a King with a five kicker or better if it’s unsuited, raise a Queen six or better if it’s suited, raise Queen eight or better if it’s unsuited, raise Jack eight or better if it’s suited, raise Jack ten or better if it’s unsuited.
The 2X Raise
If you decided to check in the first betting round, you have the option of making a play bet equal to two times your ante bet after the dealer turns over the first three community cards – you should raise with two pair or better, any pair as long as it includes at least one of your hold cards, raise with four cards to a flush as long as you’re drawing to the fourth best flush or better. You can also bet 2X when you have a combination of a flush draw and an open ended straight draw.
Call or Fold
After the dealer turns over the final two community cards, you have to either call by making a play bet equal to your ante or fold your hand and forfeit your ante and blind bets. You should call if you have a pair or better using at least one of your whole cards, you should call if the board is paired and you have at least the third best kicker and you should also call if the five community cards make a straight or better.

How to Play No Limit Texas Hold’em (5 Beginner Poker Strategies)

How to Play No Limit Texas Hold’em

Learn the basic strategies of No Limit Texas Hold'em. This in depth video about Texas Hold'em strategy for beginners will reveal the 5 basic strategies to give you a leg up on the competition.

Texas Hold'em Strategy #1: Be Positionally Aware:

Position dictates which hands you can play. Understanding how one's hand strength changes by the position of all the players involved is crucial for success. The closer you are to the button the more hands you can afford to play.

Be very cautious from early position, and play no more than 10% of hands.

Texas Hold'em Strategy #2: Preflop Fundamentals

If you're going to play a hand, come in for a raise. Raising preflop gives you two chances to win the pot: either if everyone folds or post flop when you make a continuation bet.

Avoid limping when you are the first player to enter the pot.

If you have a premium hand (or a hand that is likely to be stronger than your opponents), consider making a reraise (3-bet) preflop to isolate your opponent and build a pot.

Texas Hold'em Strategy #3: Play the Player

Each player approaches the game in a different way. Instead of playing your own two cards, aim to determine which level your opponent is on. Then, play one level higher than him.

In short, create a unique strategy for each and every opponent you face.

Texas Hold'em Strategy #4: Be Aggressive With Your Strong Hands

Too many beginning players like to slow play and wait for the perfect spot to put their money in the pot. Instead, be aggressive when you have a premium hand. Put in a raise to charge your opponents to draw out on you and value from worse hands.

Remember, you win money in poker by building a pot when you are likely to have the best hand. This means you'll need to be the one putting in the raise.

Texas Hold'em Strategy #5: Develop an Overall Game Plan

A great next step to help you improve on your poker journey is to think about how you will react on future street BEFORE making any bets. This way, you'll be one step ahead of the competition and can anticipate their next move.

I hope you enjoyed these 5 poker tips for beginners. If you have questions, leave them in a comment below.

Good luck!
Alec

How to Beat Your Friends at Poker [Poker Tips for Beginners]

In this video, we are going to talk about the best tips to beat your friends and family in poker. These texas holdem poker tips can be applied to any home game with beginners.

Links:
POKER TABLE:

FREE PREFLOP STARTING POKER CHARTS: / PREFLOP GUIDE

HAND RANGE FUNNEL:

===
Play fewer starting hands (PREFLOP)
The first tip that I would recommend to be your friends and family at poker is also one of the biggest mistakes that I see amateurs make, and professionals alike too. And that is to play fewer starting hands.

Raise preflop to apply more pressure
The second strategy to help you beat your friends and family of poker is to bring it in for a raise. I know home games are supposed to be friendly. It's a family Potter friendly pot. That's all great. But again, if you want to win money, it helps to raise preflop. So if you're going to play a hand, be sure to raise two or three times the size of the big blind.

Profile Your Opponents

The third strategy to beat your friends and family poker is to profile your opponents. And this is the fun part. And this is where poker gets deep and multifaceted. There's a lot of different levels to the game. But the concept here is to realize that people's personalities are reflected in how they play poker. It's important to think about like how they act as a person and their their strengths and their character flaws and realize that those things are amplified, they're manifesting and are amplified in the poker table. You want to create a strategy for each unique player based on how you profile them as a person because how they are as a person is going to be reflected in how they play the game.

Look for Betting patterns
Strategy number four to beat your friends a family of poker is to look for betting patterns is a great way to approach poker in general, is you want to understand how people approach the game. So now that you've profiled your opponents, you want to understand who calls every bet with weak hands. This can allow you to value bet more often you can get more value from your strong hands, because you know that they probably don't have anything good, you can perhaps bluff them more frequently.

Practice your pokerface
The fifth and final poker tip is maybe the most fun is to practice your poker face. :)
