Tides of Numenera was a game that I had to be told about by a coworker. I knew nothing about it, which is surprising because I loved Planescape Torment, and knowing a spiritual successor was releasing soon was very nearly (some word that youtube will demonitize me for). I pre-ordered, which I never, EVER do, and as soon as there was a playable beta of the game, I jumped on that shit like a homeless man on a half-eaten sandwich.
It was cool. The opening area was unique and I liked the way you could either choose to fight the sorrow in your mind, or interact with memories to dispel them. After escaping from the prison of my mind, I was introduced to an interesting, albeit long, text adventure, similar in construction to what Pillars did, but much more in depth. The lore was interesting, and I was excited to see what the game had in store for me. I forced myself to stop playing because I didn’t want to go too far into the game only to get bored when the game fully released because I had to do it all over again.
Little did I know that they would scrap almost everything from the original opening, and streamline it, to what I think, is the detriment of the experience. That’s not to say I don’t understand why they did it. It is a much less daunting experience to not be confronted with that much text up front, but the thing about this game is, if you don’t like to read, this game is not for you. Even though they removed quite a bit of text from the beginning, there’s still so much exposition front loaded into this game that people who are long time fans of Planescape all had very similar complaints.
The game takes too long to start.

Torment: Tides of Numenera Review - A worthy successor to Planescape: Torment? [Spoiler-free]

Torment: Tides of Numenera is an isometric story-focused RPG and a spiritual successor to one of the best games that have ever graced the genre - Planescape: Torment. Much like its predecessor Tides of Numenera features a vast amount of interesting characters, tough decisions, compelling stories, enough lore to fill out at least a couple of books, and as is tradition, completely unremarkable combat.

After spending well over a year in Early Access Tides of Numenera has now finally arrived in full. So if you're wondering whether it was worth the wait, and if its even remotely as enticing as Planescape: Torment, allow me to share my thoughts on everything I've experienced throughout my playthrough. And don't worry about spoilers as I've made sure to only use examples from the first couple of hours.

And if you're looking for some reviews, or simply want a daily dose of PC gaming news & interesting upcoming games, I welcome you to visit me at my website:

GREAT WHALE ROAD – New Player Guide / Tips For A Great Start And Smooth Campaign :-)

The Great Whale Road: New Player Guide, 10 Tips for a good start into the game :-) THE GREAT WHALE ROAD is where story-driven RPG and turn-based tactics meet interactive historical fiction and strategic settlement improvement. Set in the Early Middle Ages, around 650 AD, the game revives an ancient world through its digitally hand-drawn art, colourful characters, atmospheric soundtrack, and deeply researched lore. I've played it for some hours quite and noticed some things I'd have loved to know at the start of the game. I'm sharing them here to give you the chance to be informed earlier :)

Torment: Tides of Numenera - First 15 minutes and character creation ( Walkthrough #1 )

Finally it's here the successor to Planescape: Torment, Torment: Tides of Numenera! In this video we'll start up the game with a female character, play through the first 10-15 minutes and finish the character creation. Based on the answers you give at the start, the game suggests a character template that you then adjust. I've been given a Nano Observer and I stuck with that. Torment: Tides of Numenera was a game I waited for ever since I heard it was being made! Can't wait to share my game play with you!

_________________________________________________________

ABOUT THIS GAME

You are born falling from orbit, a new mind in a body once occupied by the Changing God, a being who has cheated death for millennia. If you survive, your journey through the Ninth World will only get stranger… and deadlier.

With a host of strange companions – whose motives and goals may help or harm you – you must escape an ancient, unstoppable creature called the Sorrow and answer the question that defines your existence: What does one life matter?

Torment: Tides of Numenera is the thematic successor to Planescape: Torment, one of the most critically acclaimed and beloved role-playing games of all time. Torment: Tides of Numenera is a single-player, isometric, narrative-driven role-playing game set in Monte Cook’s Numenera universe, and brought to you by the creative team behind Planescape: Torment and the award-winning Wasteland 2.

Features:
A Deep, Thematically Satisfying Story. The philosophical underpinnings of Torment drive the game, both mechanically and narratively. Your words, choices, and actions are your primary weapons.

A World Unlike Any Other. Journey across the Ninth World, a fantastic, original setting, with awe-inspiring visuals, offbeat and unpredictable items to use in and out of battle, and stunning feats of magic. Powered by technology used in the award-winning Pillars of Eternity by Obsidian Entertainment, the Numenera setting by Monte Cook provides endless wonders and impossibly imaginative locations for you to explore.

A Rich, Personal Narrative. Thoughtful and character-driven, the story is epic in feel but deeply personal in substance, with nontraditional characters and companions whose motivations and desires shape their actions throughout the game.

Reactivity, Replayability, and the Tides. Your choices matter, and morality in the Ninth World is not a simple matter of “right” and “wrong”. You will decide the fates of those around you, and characters will react to your decisions and reputation. The result is a deeply replayable experience that arises naturally from your actions throughout the game.

A New Take on Combat. With the Crisis system, combat is more than just bashing your enemies. Plan your way through hand-crafted set-pieces which combine battles with environmental puzzles, social interaction, stealth, and more.

Torment :Tides of Numenera - My fair Review

Very first review that I did for you guys, hope you will enjoy it.
I tried to be very specific in this long conversation and I really gave my best honest opinion about the game and my overall experience with Torment.
I did it without cuts, effects, music and fancy things you'll see in 90% of other videos on youtube, just sitting there and sharing words like when you talk with someone in person :) ,I hope that you will find my words useful.

Numenera -- How to Gain and Use XP

This guide should give you a good idea about how the XP system works in Numenera.

And yes, someday I will buy a better camera or learn how to fix the brightness problem. But I'm a system nerd, not an A/V guy. Sigh.

The cards shown are from the Numenera XP Deck, available as a pdf for printing or as a physical copy! The card faces are mainly 1's with a few 4's.

Thanks again to Monte Cook Games for designing this game!
